Grain free cat food is free of common grains, such as wheat, corn, oats, barley, and rice. The reason that these grains are used in cat food is to produce cat food at a lower cost.
What is the Grain Replaced With?
In some cases, the grain-free cat food is replaced with other ingredients. They are not highly digestible for your cat and are really replacement fillers. Ingredients like potatoes, sweet potatoes, tapioca, lentils, oatmeal, and peas. Which does mean that these foods are higher in carbohydrates. So, if you are thinking that because the label says grain free it is low in carbohydrates.
