The 411 on an All Natural Cat Food Diet

Everyone can benefit from being health and weight conscious, even our pets. What we choose to feed our cats can help keep them out of the vet’s office and their health and wellbeing great. All-natural cat food is a great option. Let’s look at what it is and why it is a good choice.

What Makes Cat Food All Natural

It’s more about what isn’t in the food than what is. In order to be labeled all-natural pet food must be made without artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. With the exception of certain vitamins, the ingredients in natural food can come only from plants, animals, or naturally occurring minerals.

All-natural pet food labeled grain-free is made without corn, wheat, or soy ingredients that can cause food sensitivities in some animals.

Optimal Proteins for Your Cat

Natural brand food is also free of byproducts – such as skeletal meats, connective tissue, blood, or organs. This is a significant piece in the all-natural cat food diet. Cat’s need a high protein diet, however, not just any protein will do. They need animal protein which most resembles a cat in the wild’s diet; it was what they are meant to eat. Surprisingly cats have higher protein requirements than most mammals – even dogs and humans.

The protein source in an all-natural cat food will have a named protein source such as Salmon, Tuna, or Chicken. The protein should be listed on the label above any grains or any other ingredients. It should not say meat or byproduct. If it does have either of those phrases on the label, then it is not, in fact, all-natural.

The ingredients on a cat food label are required to appear in descending order based on content weight. This means that the first three ingredients you would want to see are proteins and maybe fat.

Other Ingredients You Should Not See on the Label

Double-check the ingredients and analysis label to be sure that it does not include any of these ingredients.

  • Chemical Agents

  • Preservatives

  • Dyes

  • Grains

  • Corn

  • Soy

  • Artificial Dyes

If you see any of these ingredients on the label, then it is not all natural or complete cat food. There are times that cat food will claim to be a well-balanced product. However, the ingredients label will show that it contains fillers that are not good for your kitty.

Other Benefits of All Natural Cat Food

Your cat will have radiant and lustrous skin and coat, healthy joints, maintaining a suitable weight, a strong immune system that will keep kidney and heart disease at bay. Fish offers omega-3 fatty acids that improve eyesight in your feline.
